Developing a highly effective oral hygiene routine is absolutely essential for preventing serious issues with tooth decay and periodontal disease. There are many important factors to an effective oral hygiene routine, that require attention and focus. While it starts with choosing safe and effective oral hygiene products for brushing, and flossing each day, it also extends to attending your regular dental checkups at Island Dental.

When shopping for oral hygiene products, you want to make sure to always look for American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This seal signifies that the product has been researched and tested for safety and effectiveness.

The ADA recommends that you brushing your teeth twice each day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and an abrasive toothpaste. This should be immediately followed by flossing between your teeth and along the gum line to remove plaque and food particles from teeth and along the gum line.

After brushing and flossing you can rinse your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Just keep in mind that antiseptic mouthwash cannot replace the effectiveness of floss.

It’s important that you attend your twice-annual dental checkup at Island Dental to clean your teeth, effectively remove any hardened tartar and identify early signs of tooth decay, gum disease or oral cancer.
