Hygiene and Diet Adaptations for Healing and Repair
Oral Surgery
After all of the treatments, Dr. Naman B. Patel or our assistant will be able to instruct you on your individual post-operational instructions. To promote healing in your mouth and to minimize the risk of infection, we strongly encourage you to follow Dr. Naman B. Patel’s post operative instructions. Our dentist will carefully explain the precautions you should take.
Some soreness is to be expected following the procedures. Painkillers, such as Ibuprofen, may be taken before the anesthesia fully wears off to help with swelling and soreness. Avoid chewing sticky or hard foods and otherwise disturbing the surgical site.
If you have any questions about any of the procedures or any of the long-term effects of our services, do not hesitate to give us a call. We are willing and eager to answer your every question so we can provide you with the right kind of dental health and the best kind of smile that you can have.
Extractions
In most cases, the extraction of the tooth is the last resort in maintaining dental health. In order to keep your teeth healthy and functional, it is important that you keep a proper oral hygiene routine within the home and you consistently attend scheduled dental appointments.
To avoid post surgical instruction and promote healing, our team at Island Dental encourages you not to rinse your mouth or brush your teeth for 12 hours after surgery. When you do begin brushing your teeth, we advise you to brush gently and steer clear of the extraction site. Following the procedure, it is normal and expected to experience bleeding. Apply gauze to the extraction site for at least a half hour after your appointment to help control the bleeding.
Our dentist will provide you with specific instructions on how to receive the best possible results when healing. The doctor will also tell you that soreness and pain will be expected for the first few days after extraction. This is normal, and the soreness will subside.
