Do You Know How We Use Lasers in Dentistry?

By Island Dental

You may have heard of laser dentistry before, but do you really know what it’s all about? It’s not always as straightforward as it sounds. (And to be honest, it doesn’t sound simple.) Here are a few examples of services that can be augmented by lasers. (This post is for informative purposes only; our office may not perform all of these laser services in-house.)

(Dental lasers typically found in one of two varieties: soft tissue lasers for working with gums and hard tissue lasers for working with teeth.)

Relieving pain from cold sores. Cold sores are no fun, especially for those of us who seem prone to them nearly constantly. By using dental lasers, we can treat cold sores by increasing the rate of healing time and minimizing their painful effects.
Removal of benign tumors. Tumors can form in the soft tissues of your oral cavity, and when those tumors are benign, we can eradicate them from your mouth using lasers.

Smile sculpting. A few people might find that the appearance of their gum tissue overshadows their chompers during smiles. (This is sometimes known as “gummy smile.”) We can use oral lasers to shape your gums in a way that enhances the appearance of your smile.

Teeth whitening. Many stains are just too tricky to clean up without the help of an oral professional. Dental lasers can also be used as a part of teeth whitening.
