Nutrition Guidelines for Adults Over 60

By Island Dental

To help you have a strong, healthy, and natural smile for a lifetime, our Island Dental team recommends that you keep up with oral hygiene, visit your dentist, and do the following things:

· Eat the right foods: Making smart and healthy food choices will help you more than you know. We recommend choosing to eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, turkey, chicken, and fish. Please do your best to limit processed foods.
· Consume the right beverages: Do your best to limit your intake of sugary drinks. These products can lead to tooth decay and obesity. We also recommend limiting your alcohol intake. Alcohol tends to irritate the sensitive lining of your mouth and increase your risk of developing oral cancer.
· Get enough calcium: It is very important that you get enough calcium each day, which is about 1,000 milligrams. It’s best to get your calcium from foods and liquids, so we recommend consuming low-fat dairy milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, spinach, kale, and Swiss chard.

Nutrition is an important part of dental care and oral health. If you keep a balanced and healthy diet, you can also keep strong and healthy teeth. Some people think tooth loss as a senior is inevitable, but that is simply not true. If you would like to know more about keeping your natural teeth as you get older, please feel free to call 480-725-3031 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Naman B. Patel. Your dentist will be happy to meet with you, examine your smile, and give you the tips you need to maintain a pristine oral health. We look forward to helping you!
